What is a PA?

Physician Assistants (PA) in Dermatology are healthcare providers that diagnose and treat a wide variety of conditions that are treated medically and surgically. Most PAs work independently within a dermatology office, much like a staff dermatologist, seeing a wide range of medical, surgical and cosmetic patients but always under physician supervision. PAs hold a prescribing license and are able to write prescriptions under the guidelines of the state they are licensed in. Most PAs hold a Masters degree in PA Studies.

Do you offer laser hair removal?

Yes, we offer laser hair removal for all skin types. Prices vary depending on location. Angie, our Aesthetician, provides free consultations to discuss treatment options and pricing.

What product lines do you carry?

We carry products from Avene, Glytone, Neostrata, SkinCeuticals, Replenix, Revision and Topix.

Do you offer cosmetic consultations?

Yes, we offer cosmetic consultations with any of our three experienced providers. If the appointment is ONLY for cosmetic issues, the visit is $150 and will be applied towards any procedure performed that day.

What skin conditions do you treat?

We treat all skin conditions including warts, acne, rashes, eczema, psoriasis and skin cancers. We also offer annual skin cancer screenings that are covered by your health insurance.

What ages do you treat?

We treat ALL ages from pediatric to geriatric patients.

Do you speak Spanish?

Yes! All three of our medical providers are fluent in Spanish.

May I request medical legal consultation and paperwork?

Any special letter writing, medical legal consultations or speaker engagements can be performed as requested by a patient and billed at the providers hourly rate.  There is no charge for physician work or school excuses and typical communications with other providers about your care.

Why do I have to pay a copay?

A copay is a fixed amount you pay for healthcare services and this amount is determined by your insurance company. It is required to be paid at the time of service. Austin Dermatology Associates and Aesthetics is legally obligated to collect all copays.

Does my insurance require a referral?

A referral is a kind of “pre-approval” from your primary care physician. Some insurances require this authorization in order to be seen by a specialist. Please check in advance with your insurance company or primary care physician if a referral is needed for your visit. If your insurance requires a referral and you do not have one, we cannot file with your insurance plan and you will be seen that day on a cash fee schedule. It is our policy that you are responsible for acquire the referral prior to your visit. Most HMOs, Tricare Prime, Seton CHIP, and United Health Select plans do require referrals.

Do you have clinical trials?

Yes, we are a clinical trials site. We currently have four ongoing trials for Psoriasis. If you or someone you know has psoriasis please contact Becky Ramos (512) 454-3781 extension 170 to determine if you are eligible for free treatment. We are enrolling for an 8 week topical psoriasis study. We are looking forward to an upcoming trial for Acne Vulgaris. Please see our clinical trials page for more information.

Do you offer Telemedicine?

We do offer telemedicine, but to established patients only. This type of consultation cannot be applied to your insurance. It is generally for patients that have a single problem such as a refill request. Please contact our office for additional details.

Cosmetic treatments can be an excellent investment in an individual’s well-being. Because of this, we believe financial considerations should not be an obstacle to obtaining this procedure. Being sensitive to the fact that different patients have different needs, we provide the following payment options:
